한사모의 의미
워싱턴통합한국학교는 이 지역의 한인 후세들에게 한국어, 한국역사, 전통문화 및 예술을 가르쳐온지 어언 40년이 되어가고 있다. 미국과 같은 다 인종, 다 문화 사회 속에서 훌륭한 코리안 아메리칸으로서의 삶을 위해서는 자신의 정체성 확립이 필수 불가결한 요소임은 새삼 말 할 나위도 없지만 이는 또한 인간적으로나 사회적인 성공을 위한 지름길이 될 것이다.
한미교육재단에서는 내 집 마련의 꿈을 현실로 구체화 하기 위하여 2000년 11월 20일에 워싱턴통합한국학교 건립위원회를 구성하여 그 후원단체로서 “한사모 – 한국학교를 사랑하는 모임” 을 결성하였다. 이 건물은 한국학교로써의 기능 외에도 우리 교포사회가 필요로 하는 많은 프로그램을 개발하여 수용할 수 있는 훌륭한 장소로 쓰일 수 있도록 할 것이다. 긴 세월 같지만 꼭 해야 할 일이고 시작이 중요하므로, 이 일을 한사모의 모금 활동을 통해서 달성하기로 결정하였다.
한사모 경과 보고
2000년 개교30주년 기념 만찬에 참석했던 1회 졸업생 강동원 강동진 두 형제가 건축기금으로 기부한 2만불을 기초로 해서 그 해 11월에 학교 건축 위원회를 구성, 2년 동안의 준비 기간을 거쳐 2002년 9월에 한사모라는 명칭하에 건축위원회를 재정적으로 지원하는 후원회를 조직하였다.
그로부터 1년 후인 2003년부터 한 가정당 1년에 $240씩 향후 5년 동안 회비를 지불하는 제도를 만들어 현재 74명의 회원이 이에 동참했고 그 중 만 5년이 지난 2008년 12월까지 33명이 회비를 완납했으며 나머지 분들도 계속 지불 중에 있다.
지난 5년 동안 모금한 금액의 모든 재무관리는 공정하고 안전하게 관리되고 있으며 Jefferson Pilot Financial, Lincoln Financial 등에 입금하여 5.5%의 고이자율로 현재 약 $120,000이 저축되어 있다.

HANSAMO
The United Korean School of the Greater Washington (UKS) was founded nearly 40 years ago as of 2009. Its purpose has been to teach the Korean language, history, arts, and traditional culture of Korea for the next generation of Korean Americans. It is essential for them to build a clear identity as Korean Americans enriched with Korean heritage and culture in order to be successful in this multi-cultural and multi-racial society. It will help them achieve their goals in life and accomplish well-rounded holistic lives.
November 2000, the Korean American Education Foundation (KAEF) launched a Long-range Planning Committee to begin to plan and work on building our own school building. The KAEF created “HANSAMO” to mobilize further grass-roots supporters as a fundraising task force. HANSAMO can be literally translated to “A Club for people who love Korean Schools.”
As the KAEF and the committee recognize the needs for a center for the Korean community in the area for various reasons and purposes, this building can be served not only for the United Korean School, but also to meet the needs of the Korean community. It is a long term project, but it is an important project for all of us. We can accomplish this goal together with your support through HANSAMO. It is a start raising a fund with an END in mind, a school building/Korean Community Center.
HANSAMO Progress Report
During the 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2000, Dongwon Kang and Dongjin Kang, two brothers and the first graduates from the Korean School, donated $20,000. In November 2000, the Long-range Committee decided to use this gift as seed money. After two years of preparation, “HANSAMO” was launched in September 2002 to financially underwrite the committee.
In January 2003, HANSAMO introduced a membership system for a donation of total $1,200 over five years, $240 per year. Seventy-four members joined HANSAMO, of which 33 members have fulfilled their pledges as of December 2008. Others continue to honor their pledges.
Approximately, $120.000 was raised during the first five years and they have been managed transparently and securely with 5.5% returns with Jefferson Pilot Financial and Lincoln Financial.

HANSAMO is looking for new members to support the fund-raising task force for the school building and the community center to serve our future generations of Korean Americans in the Greater Washington Metropolitan area.
